Impacts of COVID-19 on the education system of Pakistan
- Lack of online structure of universities, colleges, and schools.
- Teachers and Students both unaware of studying online.
- Lack of infrastructure for both Teachers and Students (Laptops, Stable Internet)
- Students who went to their locals leaving hostels faced a lack of communication (Electricity, unstable Wired and Wireless Communication )
Universities and upper-class Schools, College been able to cope with the situation anyhow but most of the Students and schools, Colleges have seen a big long break in their education. Few solutions were carried out to solve but not enough.
- Giving home-assignments using WhatsApp.
- Calling some class for one day and giving them home-work and ask their parents to teach and help them in those assignments.
- A new TV channel is aired to teach students from Class 1 to 12.
- Some Institutes used recorded lectures.
All of these actions somehow keep students intact to the study. But the damage has been done. Students lost their level of interest and the level of attention they are giving in onsite classes. Even in online classes students turn off the camera and microphone and do whatever want, from playing games to watching videos and movies during the class. Some parents are also forced to work from home and they didn't have enough time to teach their children but somehow they managed to do it also.
If we look to the brighter side of the picture, Institutes now know the importance of LMS or online teaching methods. Universities which doesn't have any CMS or LMS built it or bought it during their period. Parents are forced to give their students a computer machine and internet connection to do school, college work. After this COVID-19 pandemic, Institutes and Students both are equipped with better hardware and knowledge of online educational tools. ZOOM, TEAM, SKYPE are hit of the year. Students used this free time to learn new skills, a boom of FIVERR and other freelancing platforms is evidence of that. Every problem has a solution. And a great saying is that
"Muskil na hota tou, maza bhi na ata"
(If it's not that difficult, there wouldn't be any fun).
